President's Letter March 2013
Posted on 07 Mar 2013 by Administrator
Dear Samaj Bhaginis and Bandhavas
In my last letter to you, I had mentioned about the Silver Jubilee celebration event of the Gowda Saraswata Mahila Vrinda to be held on 2nd and 3rd March. Those of you who attended this event would agree that these celebrations were memorable and enjoyable in all respects. The event was meticulously planned and executed which brought satisfaction to participants and accolades to the organisers. GSS Samaj once again congratulates the Mahila Vrida. A detailed report on the event appears elsewhere on our website. You are also invited to visit the photo gallery to see what you missed out.
The Mahila Vrinda started in a modest way in 1988 has today grown and matured over the last 25 years. The sanskrit word Mahila is derived from the root "Mah" which denotes Pooja or worship. Amarakosha, the sanskrit thesaurus explains that Mahila not only worships but is also worshipworthy by others. What this implies is that every action of the Mahila at home, office or elsewhere is likely to be executed with due deliberation, dedication and competence. Together with the unique child bearing ability of the Mahila ( denied to the male), this surely tilts the scale in their favour. Take into consideration the further factor of motherhood which is cherished and whose benefits are enjoyed by all, and then it is clear why in our Sanathana dharma she is worshipworthy,we say Matra Devo Bhava and bow down to the mother first .
Let us not forget that Gowda Saraswata Mahila is a Brahmin Mahila and that makes her all the more hallowed and responsible. Her place in bringing up children to mould them into good GSBs by imparting our unique traditions, customs, religious practices, food habits and thoughts is unique and unenviable. If the GSB samaj today carries some of these traits, the credit for this should certainly go to our mahilas of the past. I have no doubt in my mind that our mahilas will ensure that these values are transmitted to future generations of GSBs as well. I wish them well in this task and assure them that GSS Samaj will stand beside them in every way, for them to carry out this task.
A unique feature of the event was the honouring of and recognising the contributions to society of 16 outstanding Gowda Saraswat Mahilas from Bangalore,Mumbai,Chennai,Mangalore,Shimoga etc. GSS Samaj salutes these Mahilas and congratulates them.
I am happy to inform you that GSS Samaj has taken over the pleasant and noble task of organising annual pilgrimage tours to The Moola matha of Samsthan Shri Kashi Math at Varanasi for celebrating Karthika Poornima every year. This was hitherto being done under the leadership of Shri Chempi Umesh Bhat who will continue to lead the same under the banner of GSS Samaj. It is the desire of H H Srimad Sudhindra Theerta Swamiji that the important festivals of our community should also be celebrated in the Moola Matha of Kashi Math at Varanasi, each festival being assigned to samaj members in different cities. Those who wish to participate in this event may contact the Samaj office.
Later this month from 18th to 22nd March,Silver Jubilee celebrations of Shri Vyasa Ashrama are being held at Haridwar. Please read the detailed articles appearing elsewhere on our website to realise the historical implications of this event.
I conclude this letter by wishing each one of you, a happy and prosperous new year viz. Vijaya Samvatsara beginning from 11 April 2013, No doubt you will be celebrating the Samvatsara Padva that day at home. Please join the celebrations at Bangalore Shri Kashi Math at 6pm on 11 April to know what the Panchanga promises for the new year.
