Although the Sevak Samaj has right from the beginning helped a few needy poor students with scholarships, it was in the year 2006, Akshaya Vidya Scheme was started for regular and annual distribution of free scholarships to needy students. In 2006 an amount of Rs.1,63,000/- was distributed to 112 students. In 2007 an amount of Rs.3,41,000/- was distributed to 308 students.

In 2008, the Samaj sponsored a separate charitable foundation under the name of G S S S Charitable Foundation and the free scholarships activity of the Samaj under the Akshaya Vidya Scheme was transferred to the new Foundation.

The initial donations to the corpus fund of the Foundation were willingly given by the principal office bearers of the G S S Samaj before setting out on a public collection drive. It was possible to smoothly launch the Foundation, register the same and obtain the all important exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, because of the initiative and leadership shown by Sri K.N.Kini Vice President of the G S S Samaj, who took over as the Founder President of the Foundation.
